With just one week left, all the preparations are coming to together and conditions are shaping up for a perfect race day. The water temp in Flathead Lake has been warm all summer and peaked out above 75, but some recent cool nights have brought it back down to the low 70’s, comfortable in a full-sleeve wetsuit and manageable without. The weather forecast is perfect all week and there air was very clear this weekend, so we hope smoke from a few regional fires doesn’t roll in before the race. Some of our local cyclists did a 40k time trial on a good portion of the bike course this morning and times were very fast with cool temps and minimal wind.
My spies tell me that the hooded sweatshirts for racers this year are the best ever, thin, soft, and stylish in subtle grays and greens and blues. We will also have water bottles, socks, hats and other goodies so plan to check-in Friday evening or show up early Saturday for best selection. Once again, local community sponsorship support for this event has been incredible.
If you happen to be in the area this week, we will have a swim course preview workout on Wednesday morning at 6:30 am at Riverside Park. I am also hoping to have some arrows on the bike and run courses for preview by Thursday, but the maps on this website are pretty easy to follow too.
